Most underdeveloped space is being quickly overturned and built with houses for middle to higher class families. There are local, paved bike trails that stretch 4-5 miles long and run alongside the water and historic canals. Other parks include: Stony Brooke Park and Sunrise Park, both located on the mountainous west side of Suffield that offer hiking trails, cross country skiing, fishing and camping. I can recall countless times during my high school years going to the courts to play a game of night tennis with my friends.
Open areas and parks are near schools and include playgrounds, tennis courts and basketball courts, even fixed with lights which promote and encourage community building in the evenings. Suffield, CT is known for its open and vast farm land, but also for its growth in construction of new neighborhoods and developments. Open areas (play and park areas), undeveloped space (vacant lots, etc.)? The town itself is founded on rural farm-town values and is the home of many families.ī. It’s also minutes away from Bradley International Airport. It is known for its close commute to the capital, Hartford, which is 16 miles north, and 8 miles south of the city of Springfield, Massachusetts. Its location is on the west bank of the Connecticut river, and includes both flat and mountainous regions. Suffield, CT encompasses 43 square miles.
It was then annexed by Connecticut in 1749 and remains there today. Suffield was originally known as “Southfield” in the early 17th century and was actually incorporated as a town first in the state of Massachusetts in March of 1682. Suffield, Connecticut is a small, suburban and residential town in northern central Connecticut and is located in Hartford county. Established in the 1600’s, Suffield treasures its historical roots and small-town appeal, yet is continuing to grow and evolve as more families move to this area. Suffield is known for its exceptional public-school systems and its safe, family-oriented environment. It is the home for about 15,698 residents. Suffield is a quaint town in New England that sits on the northern central border of Connecticut and Massachusetts. Through this study, I hope to find a greater understanding and appreciation of the role of community health and all that it does to sustain the health of a population. Along with objective facts, I have implemented the assessments of my own experiences through my interactions with other fellow residents, observations of the public areas, and even with my attendance of public-school education. I have completed my research of the town of Suffield, with the help of the Internet to provide a thorough evaluation of the town and its measures to maintain a safe environment. It is important, especially as a nursing student, to gain awareness of a community health system and the role it plays, to better serve the people who live in it. I feel as though I am equipped with the tools and insight to relay the best and most accurate information regarding how the community functions in this area. I found interest in researching it further while learning about community health regulations and concerns during lecture. I have picked this place to study because it is the town that has shaped me for 15 years of my life. The community I’ve chosen to assess in this paper is Suffield, Connecticut.
